Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has formally charged Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov with aiding terrorism and issued an international arrest warrant against him, according to a Reuters report citing the Russian news agency Interfax. The FSB alleges that Telegram failed to remove content used by Ukrainian special services, as well as terrorist and extremist organizations, to prepare and coordinate sabotage, terrorist activities, and cyberfraud on Russian territory. Neither Durov nor Telegram has commented on the accusations.
This development adds to Durov's ongoing legal troubles following his arrest in France in August 2024. He faces 12 charges there, largely tied to inadequate content moderation that allegedly facilitated child sexual abuse and drug trafficking. Although he was later released, the French legal process continues.
On the crypto front, The Open Network's native token recently underwent a rebrand from Toncoin (TON) to Gram (GRAM). Amid the latest news, GRAM's price has lost approximately 2%, trading at $1.40 at the time of writing.
