MoonPay has officially launched PayBox, a next‑generation payment vault that brings AI‑facilitated trading and payments directly into popular conversational assistants like ChatGPT and Claude. The integration, announced on July 29, 2026, puts a spotlight on Solana, where users can now execute trades, swap tokens, transfer assets, and engage in DeFi activity simply by typing or speaking a plain‑language instruction.
PayBox is designed as a custom connector that users install inside their chosen AI assistant. After creating an account, registering a passkey, and linking a wallet or payment card, they gain the ability to prepare purchases, transfers, and bookings without ever leaving the conversation. Every transaction is protected by multi‑party computation (MPC) and trusted execution environments, ensuring no single party controls the wallet keys. Passkeys are transaction‑specific and expire immediately after use, while card payments leverage Visa’s agent commerce protocol to avoid exposing raw card numbers.
The default “Always Ask” mode requires human approval via passkey for every action. Users may also set autonomous limits, allowing transactions within pre‑defined boundaries. Beyond crypto‑native operations, PayBox supports travel bookings, restaurant reservations, and online retail purchases through participating providers that use the x402 open standard for machine‑initiated payments. This standard, originally developed by Coinbase and now governed by the Linux Foundation, is backed by major technology and payment companies.
At launch, PayBox is live on Solana and a suite of Ethereum‑compatible networks: Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Polygon, Hyperliquid, Tempo, and Robinhood Chain. MoonPay plans to expand blockchain support further. The platform was built on infrastructure from Sodot, acquired by MoonPay earlier this year, which secures over $50 billion in assets and more than 10 million wallets. Combined with MoonPay’s own network of over 1,700 enterprise clients, the new service significantly broadens the reach of AI‑driven crypto interactions.
For Solana’s ecosystem, the move could be transformative. By enabling conversational trading, PayBox aims to simplify access for a wider audience and potentially drive up trading volumes on the network. Current Solana trading volumes have been notably low, reflecting a period of adjustment as users adapt to these new capabilities. However, the focus on AI‑powered solutions aligns with broader market trends that reward innovation in user experience. As adoption of PayBox’s features grows, increased user engagement is expected, which could attract more projects and strengthen Solana’s competitive position against other blockchains.
