Cameron Winklevoss, co-founder of the Gemini exchange, has declared the end of the AI investment cycle, urging a shift of capital into Bitcoin and Zcash. In a July 28, 2026 tweet, Winklevoss stated, “The AI trade is over. A ton of capital is looking for a safe home. Time to rotate back into the hardest money in the universe: bitcoin and Zcash.”
The remark follows a sharp correction in technology stocks, with South Korea’s Kospi index plummeting 10.84% and major chipmakers like Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix suffering steep losses. Investor concern mounted over semiconductor valuations and China’s rapid advances in memory chips and manufacturing tools.
Winklevoss, a longtime supporter of Zcash’s privacy features, reiterated his conviction even after the project encountered technical issues with its Orchard shielded pool. His call suggests a potential capital rotation as confidence in some AI-linked investments wanes; however, Bitcoin and Zcash did not immediately confirm the thesis, slipping alongside broader markets.
The debate is widening, with deVere Group CEO Nigel Green questioning financing ties among Nvidia, OpenAI, and Oracle, while UBS describes the AI trade as maturing rather than ending. Bitcoin remains the largest digital asset by market cap, and Zcash continues to attract attention after recent network upgrades. Winklevoss’s view, while influential, is a personal opinion and does not guarantee a sustained shift—market performance and institutional confidence will be decisive in the coming months.
