Japanese game developer Gumi and SBI Financial Services will launch a ¥3 billion private crypto fund on August 1, 2026. Named SBI Crypto Fund I, it will invest primarily in Bitcoin and major listed altcoins while employing active portfolio strategies including staking, rebalancing, and hedging.

The fund is structured as a silent partnership with a planned three-year term. SBI Financial Services holds a 51% stake in the operating company, SBI Crypto Fund LLC, while Gumi’s wholly owned subsidiary gC Labs owns the remaining 49%. Daiwa Securities Group and several unnamed investors have also committed capital, though individual amounts and asset allocations were not disclosed.

Gumi’s crypto holdings surged 86% year-over-year to ¥14.13 billion by April 2026, contributing a ¥2.63 billion valuation gain to its ordinary profit. The company specifically cited XRP as a core treasury asset alongside Bitcoin.

The partners aim to “bridge the crypto asset market and Japanese companies” and will gather performance data to explore future investment trusts. The move comes as Japan’s Financial Services Agency considers rule changes that could allow domestic crypto ETFs, with a first Bitcoin ETF potentially arriving by 2028. No retail product has been approved yet, and the fund’s fee structure and custody arrangements remain undisclosed.
