FTX has commenced its fifth creditor distribution, transferring approximately $900 million to eligible claimants and pushing total repayments since the exchange's 2022 collapse to nearly $10 billion. The payout, processed through BitGo, Kraken, and Payoneer, is expected to reach creditors within one to three business days from July 31, 2026.
Recovery percentages now exceed full dollar value claims for most classes. Convenience claims have reached a 120% cumulative recovery, while Dotcom and U.S. customer entitlement claims each stand at 105% after incremental payments of 9% and 5%, respectively. General unsecured claims and digital asset loan claims have been restored to 103% of their allowed amounts.
However, the recovery is based on asset values at the time of bankruptcy in November 2022, when Bitcoin traded near $16,000 and many cryptocurrencies were at cycle lows. Creditors receive cash calculated from those depressed prices, meaning they have missed the subsequent market rally. This remains a contentious point, as long-term crypto holders effectively locked in losses relative to current valuations.
The estate is now entering its final distribution phase, with future record dates and residual payments to be announced. Creditors who completed the required steps by the June 16 record date are eligible; those who missed it face a six-month onboarding deadline from July 31 or risk forfeiture. Additionally, a nearly $165 million settlement was reached with the receiver of convicted fraudster Junho Bang’s estate, channeling funds to victims through South Korean insolvency proceedings.
The distribution highlights the FTX bankruptcy's transformation from one of crypto's biggest failures into a landmark creditor recovery effort.
