BlackRock’s iShares Core MSCI EAFE ETF (IEFA) has increased its position in Metaplanet to 3.73 million shares, valued at approximately $5.18 million, according to BitcoinTreasuries.net. The move adds institutional weight to Metaplanet’s strategy of holding Bitcoin as a corporate treasury asset and comes as the Japan-listed company reported stronger first-half results for 2026.
Metaplanet now holds 43,000 BTC, worth roughly $2.8 billion at current prices, making it one of the world’s largest corporate Bitcoin holders, trailing only MicroStrategy and a limited number of listed peers. The company reported H1 2026 revenue of ¥4.94 billion, a 134% year-on-year increase, while operating profit rose 136% to ¥3.33 billion, with an operating margin of 67.4%. Its Bitcoin Yield reached 9.6% year to date, reflecting growth in Bitcoin held per share.
Despite the positive operating trends, Metaplanet’s net assets fell 25.7% from the end of fiscal 2025 to ¥340.88 billion. The stock closed at ¥221 on August 14, down 2%, with an intraday range of ¥216 to ¥227. Shares remain far below the 52-week high of ¥983 but above the 52-week low of ¥192, highlighting volatility tied to Bitcoin’s price swings.
BlackRock’s increased IEFA stake is likely driven partly by passive index rebalancing, yet it underscores growing institutional tolerance for Bitcoin-exposed equities. As Metaplanet continues expanding its Bitcoin treasury, its stock and financial position remain closely linked to the digital asset’s performance.
