Cash App, the mobile financial platform led by Jack Dorsey and part of Block, is expanding its cryptocurrency access for U.S. users through a new integration with crypto payments provider MoonPay. The arrangement allows eligible users to fund purchases of Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), XRP and Tether (USDT) using their Cash App balances, moving beyond the platform's existing native Bitcoin and USDC services.
The integration, first reported by CoinDesk, means Cash App users can buy these additional assets through MoonPay’s dedicated purchase flow rather than through a new native Cash App trading screen. MoonPay handles asset selection, onboarding, identity checks, pricing and final delivery, while Cash App supplies the funding rail. MoonPay’s official purchase page lists more than 100 supported cryptocurrencies, though final availability can vary by jurisdiction, payment method and wallet compatibility.
Users can send purchased crypto to external non-custodial wallets including Ledger, BitPay, Trust Wallet, MetaMask and Uniswap. The reports stress that wallet choice and network accuracy are the user’s responsibility; transfers sent to an incompatible address or wrong network may not be recoverable. Fees are set at MoonPay checkout, with general fees cited from as low as 1% for certain bank transfers up to 4.5% for some Visa-card transactions.
The expansion marks a strategic shift for Cash App, which has historically been Bitcoin-centric under Dorsey’s advocacy. It positions the app as a broader competitor to PayPal, Robinhood and Coinbase. The inclusion of XRP may draw attention due to its past legal scrutiny in the U.S., though recent rulings have partially favored Ripple. Cash App’s existing USDC service remains separate: incoming USDC is automatically converted into U.S. dollars, while MoonPay purchases are delivered as crypto to external wallets.
