Bitcoin marked a major milestone on August 22, exactly one decade after it traded near $586 in 2016. With the cryptocurrency now changing hands around $77,000, its price has increased roughly 130 times over ten years. The milestone, highlighted by Woo Blockchain on X, reflects Bitcoin’s transition from a niche digital asset to a mainstream financial instrument with a market capitalization exceeding $1.5 trillion.
The rally has pushed Bitcoin’s relative strength index to approximately 86, the strongest overbought reading in nearly two years. BTC broke decisively above its long-held trading range of $62,000 to $71,000, gaining as much as 12% in a single day and briefly approaching the $80,000 level. According to Crypto Briefing, “In a strong upward trend, the RSI can remain in overbought territory for a long time, so it is difficult to interpret it as an immediate signal of a price drop.”
The breakout triggered more than $3 billion in leveraged short liquidations within 24 hours, creating a feedback loop that accelerated the upward move. Traders are now watching the $77,000 support level as a key short-term indicator: holding above it may support further upside, while a break below could signal a cooling-off phase.
Several long-term drivers have supported Bitcoin’s growth, including its fixed supply cap of 21 million coins, growing institutional participation, regulatory clarity in various jurisdictions, and macroeconomic conditions such as inflationary pressures. However, the asset remains volatile and subject to regulatory, technological, and sentiment risks.
