Bitcoin and Ethereum have shifted the market narrative away from artificial intelligence equities, posting 50-day gains that dwarf traditional benchmarks and drawing sustained inflows through regulated exchange-traded products.
According to data cited on August 22, Bitcoin rose 31.60% over the latest 50-day window, while Ethereum surged 53.50%. By comparison, the S&P 500 advanced only 2.26% and the Nasdaq Composite moved just 0.22%. Gold and silver also rallied, up 14.31% and 19.26% respectively, but both lagged Ethereum and Bitcoin.
Bitcoin is approaching the $80,000 area after rising roughly 30% from its recent low near $60,000. US spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in approximately $1.6 billion between August 17 and August 20, before adding a further $307 million in net inflows on August 21. Spot Ethereum ETFs recorded $185 million in net inflows the same day, according to a report cited by WuBlockchain.
The five-day streak across both Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF categories is significant because Ethereum products have historically lagged or leaked assets during risk-off periods. The simultaneous positive flows suggest that buying is not limited to a single bitcoin-quality narrative, but reflects broader re-entry into crypto exposure through regulated wrappers.
Institutional flows through broker-dealers, custodians, and authorized participants add a layer of structural demand that spot market volume does not capture. With many institutional desks running lighter staffing in August, the size and consistency of these flows stand out and may force short-term traders to reassess downside positioning if demand persists through the final full week of the month.
