Elon Musk’s social media platform X is preparing to expand its financial features by adding cryptocurrency buy and sell buttons to its Cashtags system, according to Nikita Bier, an advisor and former product chief at the company. Bier said the new trading buttons are coming soon and will allow users to act on market information directly from posts.
The Cashtags feature was launched in April 2026 and initially rolled out to iPhone users in the United States and Canada. It currently lets users view real-time price information and charts for stocks and cryptocurrencies within posts. Bier specifically highlighted that users can already add Solana (SOL) and Ethereum (ETH) charts directly into posts, and can even paste contract addresses for newly minted tokens.
Bier pushed back against claims that X restricted visibility of cryptocurrency accounts, stating that before he joined, X had no distinguishing features for crypto investors. He also rejected suggestions that X’s product or moderation policies helped drive the crypto market rally, instead linking market performance to Treasury bond buybacks and concerns about the dollar’s declining purchasing power.
The planned buy and sell buttons would likely connect users with partner cryptocurrency exchanges or regulated brokerage firms. X is expected to rely on third parties for trade execution, customer verification, and regulatory compliance. However, Bier did not identify potential partners or specify which assets, countries, or account types would be supported. Regulatory treatment, partner reliability, supported markets, and risk disclosures will be important for the feature’s global accessibility and broader financial impact.
