On August 27, on-chain analyst Ai_9684xtpa reported that a wallet linked to venture firm Hack VC transferred 21.85 million ENA, worth nearly $3 million, to a Wintermute deposit address. The movement occurred after ENA had surged more than 57% in a week, highlighting early investors using private OTC desks to take profits during price rallies.
The transfer used the address 0x2a500f...590CF and several intermediary hops before reaching Wintermute roughly four hours before the analyst's post, when ENA traded around $0.1478. The Hack VC attribution has not been independently verified; public explorers Arkham and Etherscan were under bot verification systems at the time. As the analyst noted, sending tokens to a market maker does not guarantee an immediate sale, since coins can remain, return, or move elsewhere.
The timing matters more than the dollar amount. ENA was up 56.8% over the past week and 78.2% over the past month, trading near $0.15, but still about 90% below its April 2024 all-time high of $1.52. Ethena, the protocol behind the USDe synthetic dollar, has total value locked of about $4.485 billion and a fully diluted valuation of $2.195 billion. Against ENA's $1.44 billion market cap and $507.85 million daily volume, a $3 million transfer is small, according to DeFiLlama.
Institutions are increasingly routing spot flow through OTC desks. Wintermute's first-half 2026 review said institutions accounted for a record 72% of spot flow on its desk, while retail activity remained low. Wintermute is also listed among Ethena's seed investors from its 2023 funding round.
Research on unlock events adds context. Tokenomist found that across 236 unlock events, the typical token underperformed Bitcoin by a median 16.26% one month later, with the impact concentrated in early-stage, thin-float assets. A study of more than 5,000 unlocks by 6th Man Ventures found private allocations above 1% of circulating supply showed a negative price correlation. Ethena's vesting schedule includes a one-year cliff followed by three years of linear monthly vesting from the March 2024 token launch, meaning investor tokens have been unlocking monthly since early 2025. The Hack VC-linked transfer is one data point in that supply stream, occurring days after Ceffu pulled $120 million from Ethena-related wallets.
Meanwhile, ENA traded near $0.147 on Aug. 27, retaining a weekly gain of about 25% after its breakout met resistance near $0.180. The token opened the week around $0.11717, hit a high of $0.18023 on Aug. 23, and has since corrected about 18%. The main catalyst was Ethena's reported partnership with FalconX to establish a $1 billion secured warehouse lending facility, allowing reserve assets backing USDe to be used in overcollateralized loans to institutional borrowers. Daily trading volume reportedly rose to more than $1.04 billion, up about 319%.
Token concentration adds risk: the 100 largest ENA wallets reportedly control roughly 90% of circulating supply, and the move came as Bitcoin dominance rose to about 59.8% while the Altcoin Season Index fell from 51 to 33. Technical indicators show momentum stabilizing. The 4-hour RSI stood at 51.32, near balanced territory, while the MACD remained bearish but with shrinking histogram bars. ENA has formed a short-term base between $0.140 and $0.147, but sellers remain active around $0.150. Liquidation clusters near $0.150 and $0.161–$0.162 could shape the next move. On the daily chart, Supertrend support sits near $0.1202, with the 200-day exponential moving average near $0.1268 providing another area to watch.
