Bybit, the world’s second-largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, announced on September 2, 2026 that it has appointed Sean Ballard as Head of Derivatives and Institutional Business. Based in Dubai, Ballard will be responsible for strengthening the exchange’s trading infrastructure, risk frameworks, and institutional capabilities, with a broader remit spanning trading risk and exchange technology.
Ballard brings more than 25 years of experience in global financial markets. He joins Bybit from Jump Trading, where he led the firm’s high-frequency futures trading business across the US, EMEA, and LATAM. At Jump, he also served as a senior trader on the Jump Crypto team, managing centralized exchange trading initiatives and leading strategic partnership efforts to support ecosystem growth.
Bybit highlighted that its institutional division has expanded significantly over the past year. The exchange has added Bank Triparty arrangements, allowing institutions to manage counterparty risk through regulated custody while retaining full trading access. Its Market Maker Gateway has also cut round-trip latency for high-frequency and quantitative clients from 4ms to 1.5ms. In the real-world asset sector, Bybit RWA Earn offers tokenized financial products, and since July 2026, the AAA-rated USD money market fund FUIDL by Finloop has been available as collateral for trading.
The appointment reinforces Bybit’s transformation into what it calls the New Financial Platform, connecting crypto, traditional markets, and real-world financial services. The exchange says it is trusted by more than 80 million users worldwide.
