Binance Starts Migrating Funding Accounts to Spot Ahead of Stocks Rename

Key takeaways:

  • Binance's Funding-to-Spot migration may lift BTC and ETH spot liquidity as idle balances become tradable.
  • Tokenized-stock pivot signals bullish Binance sentiment, yet regulatory risks could slow BNB utility growth.
  • Traders should update API references early to avoid deposit errors during this multi-year structural shift.

Binance has begun migrating non-stock crypto assets out of Funding Accounts and into Spot Accounts, marking the operational start of a phased restructuring that will ultimately turn Funding Accounts into Stocks Accounts. The migration began on September 29 and is expected to continue in stages through January 2027.

Funding Accounts are being cleared for tokenized stocks. Binance says the change is an internal account-architecture update rather than a forced sale or liquidation, meaning the total value of user assets should remain unchanged. Bitcoin, Ether and other ordinary crypto holdings currently sitting in Funding Accounts will be moved into Spot Accounts, while Funding Accounts will eventually be renamed Stocks Accounts and dedicated primarily to settlement for stocks and stock options.

Binance lists USD, USDC, USDT, USD1, U and BNB among the supported settlement assets for the future Stocks Accounts. The exchange has been expanding tokenized stock and stock-option products, and the separate account structure is intended to create cleaner settlement and accounting infrastructure between traditional instruments and crypto balances.

Payments and Convert flows are moving too. From September 29, Funding Accounts no longer accept direct on-chain crypto deposits; users depositing crypto must use Spot instead. Binance Pay receipts now land in Spot, although Pay transactions can still draw from Funding or Spot under user Payment Priority settings. Funding-only recurring Pay sends may continue for now, but Binance plans to later remove Funding as a Pay source, though no exact date has been given.

Convert orders now settle in Spot. Existing limit orders backed by assets frozen in Funding remain open and will settle into Spot after September 29, while new limit orders freeze and settle there. Recurring Convert orders settle into Spot or Earn as configured, and failed recurring-order refunds return to Spot. Binance recommends that users and API clients update account references from Funding to Spot.

For P2P users, Binance says those who posted no ads in the past three months and are not merchants will prioritize Spot for buy and sell orders after updating the Binance app, while advertisers continue using Funding for now ahead of a dedicated P2P Account planned for December 2026. Assets left in Funding after voluntary transfers will be moved automatically in batches starting January 2027. Binance says the future Stocks Account is intended for stock and stock-options settlement, and bStocks balances move to Spot. Some changes may differ by region because the products in the notice are not available everywhere.
