Bitcoin’s available supply on cryptocurrency exchanges continues to shrink, drawing fresh attention from traders and analysts. According to analysis shared by CryptoQuant on October 13, 2026, lower exchange balances combined with improving buying demand could create a supply-demand imbalance that supports a longer-term upward trend.
The decline in exchange-held BTC may reflect holders moving coins into private wallets, institutional custody, or long-term storage. While such movements reduce the amount of Bitcoin readily available for trading, CryptoQuant cautioned that declining exchange balances alone do not confirm accumulation or guarantee higher prices. Transfers can also occur because of custody changes or movements between trading venues.
The analysis highlighted that Bitcoin is currently experiencing a futures-heavy trading environment with low spot demand. The key quote emphasized: “If buying demand continues to improve while exchange supply remains low, BTC could benefit from a supply-demand imbalance, creating favorable conditions for a longer-term upward trend.”
Traders are being advised to monitor spot Bitcoin ETF flows, trading volumes, and broader market liquidity to determine whether demand is genuinely improving. Without stronger and consistent buying activity, the shrinking exchange supply may not be enough to confirm a sustained bullish trend. Support and resistance levels remain important for gauging future price movements.
