KuCoin Nigeria Limited has received conditional Approval-in-Principle from the Securities and Exchange Commission, Nigeria, for admission into the regulator’s Accelerated Regulatory Incubation Programme. The announcement was made on October 13, 2026, and marks another milestone in KuCoin’s global compliance strategy.
During the review process, KuCoin Nigeria presented its proposed platform and operating model to SEC Nigeria. The demonstration covered planned products and services, customer onboarding procedures, fiat on- and off-ramp arrangements, technology infrastructure, and governance and risk management structures.
The conditional approval is not a final registration, licence, endorsement or recommendation. KuCoin Nigeria is not authorised to commence operations, onboard clients, list digital assets, enable trading or peer-to-peer services, process fiat transactions, hold client assets, or launch public-facing services in Nigeria until further written clearance is obtained.
KuCoin has identified Nigeria as a key market because of its vibrant digital economy and rapidly developing digital asset ecosystem. The company’s regulatory engagement in Nigeria complements authorisations in other jurisdictions: KuCoin EU has received authorisation under MiCAR for regulated crypto-asset services across the European Union, while in Australia KuCoin operates through Axis One Markets Pty Ltd, registered with AUSTRAC as a digital currency exchange provider. None of these foreign approvals allows KuCoin Nigeria to operate in Nigeria.
BC Wong, CEO of KuCoin, said the conditional Approval-in-Principle marks another important milestone in KuCoin’s global compliance journey and that trust must be built by strengthening governance, maintaining high compliance standards and enhancing user protection. KuCoin says it will continue working with regulators, partners and industry participants to support a more mature, transparent and trusted digital asset market.
