Digital bank Revolut has obtained formal authorization as a Distributed Ledger Technology provider in Gibraltar through its newly formed subsidiary Revolut Global Digital Assets Limited. The permission was issued by the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission under Part 7 of Gibraltar’s Financial Services Act and covers the transmission and execution of virtual asset orders, custody services, and staking services.
The approval builds on Revolut’s existing crypto framework in the United Kingdom via Revolut Ltd and in the European Economic Area via Revolut Digital Assets Europe Ltd under the Markets in Crypto-Assets regime. Revolut, which reports more than 80 million retail users worldwide and over 16 million crypto users, said the Gibraltar license will support its expansion outside core UK and European markets. Emil Urmanshin, General Manager for Crypto and New Bets at Revolut, said securing the authorization demonstrates the company’s commitment to regulatory compliance and provides a strong foundation for reliable crypto products.
Gibraltar officials also confirmed that Revolut has fully resumed onboarding local residents to its electronic money and payments app following engagement with the Minister for Trade and Industry, Nigel Feetham, and the GFSC. Chief Minister Fabian Picardo welcomed Revolut into Gibraltar’s financial ecosystem and said the decision reflects the territory’s standing as a trusted center for digital asset innovation. Authorities said they expected to issue three DLT permissions this week, although no timetable has been set for individual Revolut product launches.
