CoinShares and QCP Capital See Macro Obstacles Capping Bitcoin’s Upside

1 hour ago 2 sources negative

Key takeaways:

  • Bitcoin's range reflects macro dominance; spot demand provides a floor while Fed policy caps upside.
  • Watch equity sentiment and CPI data as key short-term catalysts for Bitcoin's next move.
  • Risk-off rotation threatens Bitcoin's $80K floor; a December rate hike could trigger further downside pressure.

Bitcoin remains caught in a narrow trading range between $80,000 and $84,000, with the broad upside breakout many traders anticipated still failing to materialize. According to CoinShares, the largest cryptocurrency is showing resilience to declines, supported by a recovery in spot market buying, improved sentiment in equity markets, and the closing of short positions. However, these supportive factors are being offset by renewed macro headwinds.

CoinShares noted that September’s consumer price index came in above expectations, raising concerns about inflation and interest rates. Higher inflation makes it more difficult for the Federal Reserve to ease monetary policy and reduces expectations of near-term rate cuts. Markets are currently pricing a 90.6% probability that rates remain unchanged in October, and a 68.8% probability of a rate hike in December. CoinShares said that if rates stay higher for longer, or if another hike occurs, non-yielding assets such as Bitcoin could face additional pressure.

QCP Capital, a Singapore-based market maker and OTC desk, offered a similar macro-focused reading. The firm said Bitcoin’s recent price decline is tied directly to weakness in equities rather than any Bitcoin-specific catalyst. QCP Capital describes the move as part of a broader risk-off rotation, with institutional desks reducing exposure across risk assets simultaneously. In this environment, stock market sentiment and Federal Reserve policy expectations may be more useful short-term indicators for Bitcoin than on-chain metrics alone.

Both assessments point to the same conclusion: spot demand is providing a floor for Bitcoin, but inflation, rate expectations, and liquidity conditions remain the main obstacles to a sustained rally. The next direction is likely to be shaped by upcoming economic data and policy signals from the Federal Reserve.
