NEAR Protocol is back in focus after gaining more than 11% in a single day, pushing the token above $5, while technical data shows a decisive breakout above the $5.40–$5.60 resistance zone remains elusive. NEAR previously rallied from roughly $1.60 in August to nearly $6.00 in mid-October, but repeated failures near resistance have kept the token in a consolidation range.
A major catalyst behind the renewed demand was the announcement that over 1 million NEAR tokens are now staked through NEAR AI. The platform lets users earn staking rewards and convert yields into AI computing credits, giving holders a way to use staking income without selling assets. The milestone highlights growing interest in combining blockchain rewards with artificial intelligence services.
Ecosystem activity also strengthened. Bitwise reported that NEAR Intents monthly volume rose from $2.40 billion in July to $4.80 billion in September, with total third-quarter volume reaching $10.41 billion. In addition, a governance proposal is being voted on that would lower annual token issuance from 2.5% to 1.6% over two years, a move supporters argue could reduce future dilution.
Technically, NEAR is trading around $4.97 to above $5, with immediate resistance between $5.40 and $5.60. Sellers have repeatedly produced long upper wicks near this range. A sustained move above $5.60 would bring the previous $6.00 high back into view. Support sits around $4.80, reinforced by a short-term moving average near $4.83; a daily close below that could expose the $4.30 support area, where the 50-day moving average near $4.27 also comes into play. Momentum has cooled: the Relative Strength Index has fallen toward 50 from readings above 85 in September, and trading volume has declined during consolidation.
Not every signal is bullish. Bitwise's Spot NEAR ETF recorded a $2.54 million outflow over 24 hours, its first withdrawal since launch. Traders are watching whether NEAR can secure a decisive close above $5.50–$5.60 and whether AI-driven staking growth can continue supporting demand.
