Cryptocurrency markets entered a capital-rotation phase on Oct. 23, 2026, as a sharp U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF outflow coincided with rising demand for XRP, Zcash and LayerZero’s ZRO. Total crypto market capitalization stood at $2.75 trillion, with 24-hour volume of $108.21 billion, while Bitcoin traded near $81,657 and held dominance at about 59.63%.
According to SoSoValue, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs lost $634.99 million, one of the largest daily outflows in months. Ethereum funds lost $26.13 million and Solana funds saw $2.65 million in outflows. The move followed a drop in the S&P 500 of 1.24%, with gold at $4,029.80 and the U.S. tech sector selling off after Meta’s AI-spending guidance of up to $135 billion.
The futures market reflected the broader de-risking. CoinGlass data cited in the report showed 82,246 traders liquidated over 24 hours, totaling $332.09 million. Long positions accounted for 82.6% of forced closures, or about $274.37 million. Ethereum derivatives saw $59.54 million in liquidations and Bitcoin derivatives $52.28 million, with Binance responsible for 45.5% of them.
Countertrend demand was strongest in regulated Zcash and XRP products. Grayscale’s Zcash ETF (ZCSH) took in $14.23 million, its third consecutive day of inflows after $23.16 million and $12.88 million in the prior sessions, lifting total net assets to $681.39 million. The fund’s holdings represented about 3.11% of Zcash’s market capitalization. The ZEC price was around $1,236.83 ahead of the NU7 network upgrade expected on Nov. 5.
Spot XRP ETFs added $3.55 million, entirely via Franklin Templeton’s fund, while other issuers showed zero daily balance changes. Total net assets reached $1.49 billion, equal to 1.01% of XRP’s market cap, with cumulative historical inflows above $1.8 billion. XRP traded at about $1.3172, up 0.66% on the day, as traders looked ahead to Ripple Swell and potential RLUSD lending announcements.
LayerZero’s ZRO rallied about 10% to $1.98 in the 24 hours to Oct. 22, ahead of the scheduled Nov. 30 launch of the Zero mainnet and ATLAS trading infrastructure. Trading volume climbed more than 50% to $282 million. Futures data showed a slight long skew, with longs at 53% of leveraged positions. Analysts identified $2.00 as the next psychological resistance and $2.50 as a further technical reference if momentum persists.
LayerZero said Open ATLAS will support more than a dozen venues at launch. Under the announced fee model, venues receive rebates of 20% to 65% based on ZRO stake, trading volume, or both; of the fees remaining after rebates, 75% is allocated to buying and burning ZRO and 25% to market creators. ATLAS is described as a 'headless exchange' offering spot assets, perpetual contracts, stocks, commodities, bonds and prediction markets. Initial ATLAS capacity is listed at 200,000 transactions per second, while the technical roadmap describes 2 million transactions per second per Zone.
Elsewhere, DFINITY founder Dominic Williams publicly accused NEAR Protocol of building NEAR Intents on DFINITY’s proprietary ECDSA threshold signature algorithm. He said the system runs on only eight servers and that an emergency rollback appeared in NEAR’s GitHub repository because of U.S. legal risk. NEAR fell 1.29% to $4.96. The conflict added to cautious sentiment even as privacy networks attracted institutional attention; Gemini-linked and DCG-linked miners were reported to each control roughly 20% of Zcash hashrate.
Other notable developments included HSBC’s launch of the Hong Kong-dollar-backed RedCoin stablecoin, South Korea’s plan to recognize stablecoins as official payment instruments from Dec. 3 with LG CNS partnering with Chainlink, and Ripple’s partnership with Arf for RLUSD cross-border liquidity. Despite the morning volatility, Fundstrat co-founder Tom Lee described the move as 'a healthy correction, not a bubble,' citing over-consensus shorts in big tech and tight debt-market conditions.
