OKX has launched a virtual Mastercard in the United States that lets eligible customers make purchases backed by USDC, USDT or USDG held in OKX Pay. The product is marketed as stablecoin spending with no transaction or foreign-exchange fees, plus cashback rewards: users can earn 2% cashback on eligible USDG purchases, with potential rewards of up to 10% at higher tiers. OKX also highlights rebates on selected AI and entertainment subscriptions, capped at $20 per month.
The card is issued by WebBank and runs on Mastercard’s merchant network. It is virtual-only at launch and available to U.S. customers in supported states after identity checks and maintenance of an active OKX Pay account. The rollout excludes Massachusetts and New York along with several U.S. territories.
Despite the debit-card-style marketing, OKX describes the product as a secured charge card. Stablecoins remain in the customer’s account as collateral while spending is authorized; they are not necessarily transferred directly to each merchant at the point of sale. Under automatic repayment, the stablecoin collateral may be liquidated after transaction settlement, though customers can also select a fiat repayment track. This structure introduces practical questions around collateral valuation, stablecoin peg risk, chargebacks and repayment mechanics.
The launch extends OKX’s broader effort to combine stablecoin balances, transfers, yield and card spending in one consumer application. Adoption will depend on user trust in the platform, clarity of reward terms and how OKX and WebBank handle declined transactions, freezes, lost devices and repayment errors. Overall, the product could make digital assets more usable in everyday commerce, while keeping the merchant-facing layer on Mastercard rather than requiring merchants to accept stablecoins directly.
