Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson is developing an undisclosed concept that he claims only Midnight can deliver, triggering speculation that the project could create more direct demand for NIGHT than for ADA. In an October 17 statement, Hoskinson said the design is nearly complete but offered no technical details, features, or release date. Crypto commentator Fire Hustle assessed that the concept may favor Midnight’s NIGHT token because of its direct role in network activity.
Possible use cases discussed include private computing for artificial intelligence agents, automated cross-chain trading, and privacy services for other networks. Fire Hustle noted that recent cross-chain settlement infrastructure from Consensys is separate from Hoskinson’s project. Midnight uses a dual-resource model: NIGHT holders can register tokens to generate DUST, which pays for transactions and application activity without requiring NIGHT to be spent each time.
Network activity has surged. Daily Midnight transactions reportedly rose from below 300 to more than 26,000 within roughly a week, with explorer figures showing 47,714 transactions on October 26 versus 128 on September 27. Cumulative transactions passed one million in October after September’s opening of permissionless application deployment. Midnight’s roadmap schedules community block production for early 2027, when Cardano stake pool operators could become eligible to produce Midnight blocks and NIGHT holders could delegate tokens to earn rewards.
Still, the assessment is not a confirmed project announcement. Fire Hustle also highlighted that Cardano had less than $100 million locked in applications and daily fees below $2,000 at the time, while ADA traded near $0.19 on October 30. Previous price movements, including ADA’s peak before Cardano’s 2021 smart contract launch, do not determine future returns for either ADA or NIGHT.
