A fresh data point from Token Terminal, amplified by the RWA Foundation, shows that less than 10% of stablecoins and tokenized assets are currently deposited into decentralized finance venues. Specifically, stablecoins represent only 8.2% of the $293 billion stablecoin market, while tokenized assets account for roughly 9%. The finding highlights a substantial underutilization of capital that could otherwise generate yield and liquidity across DeFi protocols.
The figures point to a major revenue opportunity for the DeFi sector at a time when broader crypto markets are sending mixed signals. Most stablecoin supply remains outside DeFi, suggesting holders may still be cautious due to perceived complexity, counterparty risk, or fragmented user experience. Stablecoins act as digital equivalents of traditional currencies and provide liquidity and stability, while regulators and financial institutions are increasingly focused on their implications for monetary policy and financial stability.
Looking ahead, analysts note that emerging markets may drive stablecoin adoption, and DeFi platforms are expected to introduce new incentives to attract deposits. If stablecoin utilization increases, it could support deeper liquidity, stronger protocol revenue, and broader DeFi engagement. Traders should watch for shifts in deposit flows and any platform-level incentive programs that could alter current engagement levels.
