KITE AI has launched its mainnet on the Avalanche network, marking a significant step in the convergence of blockchain and artificial intelligence. This dedicated Layer 1 blockchain is purpose-built for autonomous AI agents, providing them with native identity, payment capabilities, and a scalable settlement layer.
The project is not merely an addition to the blockchain ecosystem but a foundational layer for what experts predict will be a massive 'AI agent economy.' The core thesis is that autonomous AI agents—software capable of making decisions, executing tasks, and interacting without human intervention—will eventually outnumber humans online. KITE AI aims to be the primary infrastructure hosting these agents, enabling them to transact, scale, and operate frictionlessly.
The choice of Avalanche as the base blockchain is strategic. Avalanche's high throughput and near-instant finality are critical for real-time interactions between agents. Furthermore, Avalanche's support for custom Layer 1 chains allows KITE AI to optimize its blockchain specifically for the unique workloads of AI, a task that traditional blockchains struggle with. This integration also gives developers access to Avalanche's robust existing ecosystem of tools and liquidity.
Concurrent with the mainnet launch, KITE also introduced the Kite Agent Passport. This is an identity and payment infrastructure module that gives each AI agent a programmable, secure wallet. Users retain full control over spending limits and authorized destinations, allowing agents to make purchases—from physical goods to digital services—on their behalf. This system is designed to be a trusted backbone for agent-driven economies.
Kite Chain functions as a stable native settlement layer that processes payments in digital dollars and connects to traditional banking systems. The platform is already integrated with over 90 service providers and is positioning itself as a hub for major payment protocol standards, including the x402 standard, Google's AP2 protocol, Stripe's Machine Payment Protocol (MPP), and Anthropic's Model Context Protocol (MCP).
The project has raised $35 million in funding from prominent investors, including PayPal Ventures and General Catalyst. Pilot integrations with global payment giants PayPal and Shopify are already underway, signaling a push into real-world commerce. This infrastructure aims to support a future where autonomous AI agents manage logistics, trading, and customer service, reshaping digital markets by increasing speed and efficiency.
