Ripple has committed $300,000 in emergency aid to support communities affected by catastrophic flooding in Nepal and Tibet, directing funds to World Central Kitchen and Mercy Corps. The blockchain payments company announced the contribution on Aug. 28 and said the money would help provide emergency meals, clean water, and sanitation programs.
The disaster escalated rapidly. By Aug. 29, at least 669 people had been confirmed dead in Nepal and another seven in Tibet, while nearly 3,000 remain missing, according to Reuters. Nepalese officials estimate reconstruction costs could reach $5 billion. The flooding followed the collapse of glacial material near the Nepal-China border, triggering a destructive surge that wiped out roads, bridges, power infrastructure, and buildings, complicating rescue efforts.
World Central Kitchen has mobilized restaurant partners to serve meals in hard-hit areas, while Mercy Corps is focused on water, sanitation, and longer-term recovery. Ripple said the donation builds on its broader humanitarian record. In 2023, it backed relief work after earthquakes in Turkey and Syria through World Central Kitchen and Mercy Corps, and those relationships later expanded into exploring Ripple Payments and its RLUSD stablecoin for faster cross-border movement of humanitarian funds. Ripple’s latest Impact Report says Ripple Impact has contributed more than $250 million since 2018, including over $70 million during 2025. Its RLUSD stablecoin recently surpassed a $2 billion market capitalization, and in 2024 the company committed $1 million to the International Rescue Committee to explore blockchain-based cash relief and cross-border transfers.
