Key takeaways:

  • Strategy's above-market BTC buy signals strong institutional conviction despite short-term volatility.
  • Third-quarter returns far exceed historical averages, but Fed hawkishness caps upside.
  • Watch $81,000 reclaim; failure at support risks retesting $77,000 levels.

Bitcoin could be preparing for another upward move after buyers defended the critical $77,000–$78,000 support zone, according to pseudonymous trader DonAlt. He gained attention for predicting XRP’s 700% surge in 2024 and 2025, and now expects the leading cryptocurrency to extend its recovery toward higher levels.

Bitcoin began August near $64,700, gained more than $13,000 during the month, and briefly crossed $80,000 before sellers forced another test of established support. Buyers entered around $77,000, preventing a deeper correction and keeping a path toward $80,000–$81,000 open. DonAlt posted on X that it looks like Bitcoin is going to get another leg up soon.

Strategy, led by Michael Saylor, expanded its Bitcoin holdings despite late-August volatility. The company purchased 4,603 BTC for approximately $369.7 million between August 24 and August 30 at an average price of $80,318. That average exceeded Bitcoin’s recent market price, showing continued corporate treasury accumulation through weakness.

Whale activity also attracted attention. Whale Alert tracked 1,922 BTC moving between unidentified wallets, worth an estimated $149.7 million. Meanwhile, Bitfinex linked a nearly 6% drop to hawkish comments from Federal Reserve Governor Kevin Warsh, but Bitcoin stabilized around $77,100 and recovered part of those losses.

Bitcoin’s third-quarter return stands near 32.48%, well above its historical average return of 7.94%. However, strategist Mike McGlone remains cautious because monetary policy, equity correlation, and crypto competition continue creating risks. Reclaiming $81,000 would strengthen expectations for further gains, while a breakdown below support could signal a deeper correction.
