Key takeaways:

  • Strategy's equity-funded BTC buying while retiring STRC signals de-risking, but MSTR dilution risk persists.
  • Strive's 13% preferred dividend model risks SATA sustainability if BTC remains below purchase cost.
  • BTC above 20-day and 50-day averages signals bullish structure despite recent purchases underwater.

Strategy has resumed large-scale Bitcoin accumulation, disclosing a second consecutive weekly purchase of 1,665 BTC at an average price of $85,681 per coin. The acquisition, announced on September 28, 2026, brings the company's total holdings to 847,666 BTC, acquired for nearly $64 billion and now valued above $70 billion.

Co-founder Michael Saylor confirmed the purchase after hinting at it on X. In addition to buying Bitcoin, Strategy repurchased $152 million worth of STRC preferred stock and retained a USD reserve of just over $6 billion.

According to the company’s filing, between September 21 and September 27 Strategy sold 1,469,165 common shares through its at-the-market program, generating $246.2 million in net proceeds. Of that, about $103.5 million funded STRC repurchases, while the rest helped finance the Bitcoin acquisition. Strategy spent a total of $151.7 million to retire 1,534,530 STRC shares, using $48.1 million from existing cash for the difference. The filing showed roughly $18.84 billion in remaining MSTR issuance capacity and $723.5 million under the preferred-stock repurchase authorization.

Strive also added Bitcoin last week, acquiring 1,107 BTC for $94.5 million at an average price of $85,396. Its total now stands at 27,462 BTC. CEO Matt Cole said warrant exercises contributed another $12.4 million, and that including those proceeds, 85% of capital raised came from SATA, Strive’s variable-rate perpetual preferred stock. SATA carries a 13.00% annual dividend rate.

The purchases highlight different corporate treasury models: Strategy is issuing common equity while retiring preferred shares, whereas Strive is relying more heavily on perpetual preferred capital. At the time of writing, Bitcoin was trading near $83,030, putting the newest purchases slightly underwater. However, Strategy’s aggregate Bitcoin cost basis was around $75,437, leaving the broader treasury in profit. Bitcoin remained above its major moving averages, with the 20-day simple moving average near $80,660 and the 50-day near $76,466.

The latest move follows a three-week pause and a prior weekly purchase of 950 BTC at an average price just under $80,000. Strategy has now mostly offset the Bitcoin sales it completed during the summer, when prices were below $65,000.
