BitMine is within weeks of hitting its declared 5% Ethereum accumulation target, a milestone that would make it the largest corporate holder of ETH but could also remove one of the market's most consistent institutional buyers. According to the company's latest disclosure, it holds 6,016,414 ETH, roughly 4.9% of Ethereum's total supply of 122.1 million tokens, after adding 15,112 ETH in the previous week.
At its current purchase pace, BitMine would need approximately 88,586 additional ETH to reach the 5% limit, a goal it could complete in about six weeks. Chairman Tom Lee has stated the company will stop accumulating ETH once it reaches that percentage. The firm has maintained steady weekly purchases since June 2025, providing a recurring source of buying pressure even as broader market conditions remain bearish.
Separately, BitMine disclosed that around 5.07 million ETH, or about 84% of its holdings, is staked at an annual yield of 2.63%. The disclosure, highlighted by KuCoin, has drawn attention to Ethereum's liquidity and supply dynamics. However, staking rewards do not replace direct market purchases; they may reduce circulating supply, but they do not generate the same demand as weekly ETH acquisitions.
The key risk is not that BitMine will sell its ETH, but that roughly 15,000 ETH of weekly demand could disappear. If other investors, ETFs, and institutions cannot absorb that lost demand, Ethereum may become more vulnerable to selling pressure and leveraged liquidations. Market participants are closely monitoring key price levels and low trading volumes as BitMine approaches its accumulation limit.
