Ethereum’s on-exchange liquidity has weakened sharply, with the Binance Liquidity Shock Z-Score falling to approximately -1.00 on October 12, 2026—its lowest reading in nearly seven months. According to CryptoQuant analyst Arab Chain, the drop coincided with a decline in ETH reserves held on Binance, pointing to reduced liquidity activity on the world’s largest crypto exchange.
The Z-Score measures deviations in liquidity activity from historical averages; a negative value means activity has fallen below its typical level. Earlier in 2026, the indicator posted elevated positive readings, declined in February, recovered during the summer, and then reversed again in October. The current reading near -1.00 indicates a considerable contraction in Ethereum liquidity on Binance.
Arab Chain noted that falling exchange reserves often reflect investors moving ETH to private wallets for long-term storage, staking, or custody changes. However, the analyst emphasized that the metric does not confirm increased selling pressure or predict Ethereum’s price direction. Still, some market observers suggest that shrinking exchange supply could support upside momentum if investors are withdrawing tokens to hold for the longer term.
