Recent data underscored a widening institutional split in digital asset funds. On October 28, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in $137 million in net inflows, with BlackRock’s IBIT accounting for $136 million of that total. Meanwhile, spot Ethereum funds recorded $21.4 million in net outflows, even as Fidelity’s FETH posted an individual inflow of $18.78 million.
The Bitcoin ETF strength coincided with broader commentary from Eric Balchunas, who noted that equity ETFs tend to capture a higher percentage of total flows during down weeks for the S&P 500. He said ETF investors are increasingly acting as dip buyers, treating market weakness as an opportunity rather than a reason to panic. That behavior could help stabilize sentiment during volatile stretches.
For crypto markets, the divergence between Bitcoin and Ethereum fund flows may shape short-term positioning. Institutional appetite appears concentrated in Bitcoin, while Ethereum’s outflows raise questions about altcoin sentiment. Traders are also watching a sizable options expiration on Deribit, which could add volatility to both assets.
